Welcome to English in Toulouse

What's this all about?

Photo of Narelle Hello!

I'm Narelle, the organiser of English in Toulouse.

English in Toulouse is a conversation club and a friendship network, open to anyone in the Toulouse area who can speak English.

There are over 300 members in the club so far, but we're not all English! We're quite a diverse mix of cultures including Australian, Irish, American, Canadian, South African, Indian, Scandinavian, Russian and of course we have a lot of French members!

We meet twice a month at the pub (Crowne Plaza Night and Last Wednesdays at Le Sylene) as well as weekly at Bapz tea salon (French Fridays).

We also have regular special events such as wine tours, hiking, bowling and quiz nights.

Wine tour: June 27th 2009

Terra Vinea

English in Toulouse went on a day trip to Terra Vinea in Les Corbieres.

Read all about it and see the photos.

If you missed out on this trip, don't worry, there'll be another wine tour in September!

Last Wednesdays

Le Sylene

Join us for drinks at the end of every month at our Last Wednesdays meeting. Why is it called Last Wednesdays? Because it's a pub night held on the last Wednesday of the month, of course!

The official venue is Le Sylene at 60 rue de Metz, just in front of the Cathedrale Saint Etienne.

See you there at the next meetup on July 29th!

Crowne Plaza Night goes bilingual

English in Toulouse held a trial French/English language exchange at Crowne Plaza Night on June 10th, 2009.

The evening was an overwhelming success with around 20 people attending, and an almost even split between native English and native French speakers.

From 8.30pm to 10pm the set language was English and from 10pm to 11.30pm, French. After 11.30pm it was anything goes and many people stayed on until long after the bar had officially closed at midnight.

Meetings in July and August

Pub nights

Last Wednesdays and Crowne Plaza Nights will continue as usual.

There will be no host (I will be in Australia for July and August) but you can still find the group — just ask for us at the bar.

French Fridays

Our weekly French Friday exchange will also continue throughout the summer, but our venue, Bapz, will be closed in August.

Meetings on August 7, 14, 21 & 28 will be held on the terrace at the Natural History Museum cafe at Jardin des Plantes. If it's raining, you'll find the group inside.

To get to the museum, the nearest metro is Carmes (line B). From the metro, you take rue Ozenne until you arrive at Jardin des Plantes (about 200 metres from the metro). The museum is at the entrance to the gardens and the cafe is located a few metres down from the glass doors of the museum.

Volunteer to host the group

Want to volunteer to host one of our regular meetings in July/August? Print a sign and let me know so that I can let the group know.
